Installing Wattson with Solar

If you have just bought or had a Wattson Solar Plus bought for you, a quick start installation guide is included inside the box to guide you through the installation process. This section is designed to help you understand where to place the sensor clips and get your Wattson up and running.

If you have a Wattson Classic, or are using a Wattson for measuring usage only (not to measure generated energy) please follow the installation guidelines here.

To read your usage as well as your generation, Wattson needs to be able to measure electricity from your electricity supply and electricity being exported. The Easifit kit allows you to do this without the use of a junction box or Henley Block, using the Y-cable, a clever cable that nets out the usage from the generation. If you are unsure whether you have a Henley Block or junction box, your Solar installer will know which configuration you have.

Used electricity

Step 1 Identify theSINGLE-cored (live or neutral) load circuit(s)/electricity supply wire(s).

Step 2 Place the sensor clip around wire of load circuit, one for each phase to be measured.

Step 3 Plug the sensor clip(s) into any of the sockets marked 1-3 on transmitter.

Generated electricity

The Easifit kit is an additional sensor clip and a Y-cable.

Step 1 Identify SINGLE-cored (live or neutral) generation output.

Step 2 Place sensor clip around wire of generation circuit.

Step 3 Install a second sensor clip in the same place, but connect it to one of the sockets on the Y-cable.

Step 4 Install a third sensor clip onto the tails of your meter as shown in the diagram, plug into second socket of the Y-cable.

Step 5 Insert Y-cable into any consumption socket on the transmitter (marked 1, 2 or 3).

You can view and download the instructions here.

Have I fitted the Y-Cable properly?

If the sun is shining and you are using very little electricity, you should now be putting electricity back into the grid, and when the Wattson Solar Plus is in Grid mode, you can expect it to display a negative value. Check this value now.

If it is negative, the polarity is correct. If the value is actually positive, indicating that you are taking electricity from the grid, you will need to adjust the installation to correct the polarity. Simply unclip ONE of the Y-cable clips, rotate it through 180 degrees, and replace the clip so the wire passes through it in the opposite direction.

You should now see a negative value indicating that you are putting electricity back into the grid. If you still see a positive value and/or the sun has stopped shining, you may need to repeat the process.

This video illustrates the Easifit installation process.
